Hi, this is Pat, and yes, this year, I’m doing a Solo Christmas Carol.
Why slog out this tired old story that everyone knows? I mean, really, do we need another middle aged man saying “God Bless us, Every One” in a cockney falsetto? Do we ever again need to hear the word “Bah”?
Well, no. Yes. No. … but Yes.
Here’s the thing. Every time I’ve read this book, it’s been much funnier, much sharper than I’ve ever seen it in production. Whereas there are expectations and stereotypes that seem to exist before nearly every Christmas Carol play or film, the book is still a really witty, lively read.
And for the last few years, I’ve really wanted to just read it and put it in a podcast.
So this year, I’m finally doing that, here.
And, on top of that, I’m doing a live performance of it (abridged) on December 16, 8pm at the Peoples Improv Theater.
So come by. I promise, I won’t try a cockney accent. And I don’t think I’ll speak in falsetto either. I’m just going strip away your expectations, so you can see this clever, hearty, often hilarious story in a fresh light.
